Solution Overview

Drill4J provides the ability to conduct white box functional testing, via access to application instructions and memory. Based on collected test to code mapping, this automated regression testing tool allows to make Testing Gaps Analytics and identify risks of untested code changes. Drill4J minimize regression suite via suggestion to run tests related to particular code change and reduce root cause analysis effort by providing relevant application errors and variable states. The solution allows to aggregate any type of tests: manual and automated, security and performance, unit and integration tests as well.

Benefits

Minimization of Regression Suite

Shorten feedback loops in CI with execution of only high quality tests.

Testing Gap Analytics

Identify code changes that weren’t tested before release

Test Impact Analysis

Determine tests' subset that should be executed for a given set of code changes

Features

Reduce regression testing scope via code to test mapping evidence

  • Highlight risks from untested code changes with testing gap analytics
  • Measure build code coverage using any type of test (manual, automated, integration, performance, etc.)
  • Build code to test mapping shows which test case triggers which method of in-app code, and vice versa
  • Track manual testing coverage

I would recommend Drill4J to any organization looking for a regression testing solution. It makes sure no piece of code is left untested and it works for all kinds of testing (manual, automated, security, performance, unit...).

    Questions & Answers

Do we need to have access to dev code to use this? The development is with a different organization in our project.

Posted on January 22, 2024 by Manishankar

    Hi Manishankar,

    Thank you for your query.

The answer to your question is a bit more nuanced than a simple YES or NO.

Essentially, you do NOT require direct access to the codebase or the code storage system to use Drill4J.

However, the unique aspect of the Drill4J agent’s operation is that it needs to be launched concurrently with the application, specifically initiating with the JVM process in which your Java application is running.

Once activated, the Drill4J plugin, as a part of the operational Java ecosystem, will have access to the application’s instructions.

This access allows it to provide the detailed insights required for effective testing.

Therefore, while direct access to the code is not necessary, what you will need is the cooperation of system engineers or DevOps professionals who deploy the application under test.

They would be instrumental in launching the test application integrated with Drill4J.

    Hope this helps.

Does the code uses log4j logging framework in the code?

Posted on December 12, 2021 by Pratik Das Purkayastha

No, we haven’t used log4j in our solution: Drill4j admin bases on logback logger. Agent part bases on our custom Native logger.

Can I write my own plugins?

Posted on November 10, 2020 by Maria Robinson

Drill4J is extensible from the codebase. You can easily develop your own plugins.
