Welcome to the first installment of Solution Spotlight, a new series where we conduct Q&A sessions with the people behind the open source solutions, software products and accelerators featured here on EPAM SolutionsHub. For this piece, we talked to Dmitriy Gumeniuk, the Delivery Manager/Product Owner behind ReportPortal. Here’s what he had to say about the open source test automation dashboard:
What is ReportPortal?
ReportPortal is an AI-powered test automation dashboard that enables users to acquire, aggregate and analyze test reports as well as automatically define the reasons behind test failure. The solution is completely free and open source.
Why was ReportPortal created? How long has it been around?
We created ReportPortal in 2012 as an accelerator to minimize the effort around understanding test automation results and improve visibility in test automation reporting.
Why did EPAM choose to make ReportPortal free and open source?
In 2016, we decided to open source ReportPortal in order to share it with more clients and receive feedback and inspiration from the larger testing community.
What does ReportPortal offer that other solutions don’t?
We noticed that a lot of companies were building the same sort of product in-house, but it was limited to use only inside the company and meant to fit only within a particular ecosystem. Recognizing that these kinds of solutions didn’t have a lot of usability or longevity, we designed ReportPortal to offer general applicability, increased flexibility and a lot of room for growth. Plus, it does a really good job of improving test automation reporting!
Who uses ReportPortal?
Kronos, the workforce management software and services company, relies on ReportPortal. I can’t really mention any other specific EPAM clients who use ReportPortal, but I can say that over 60 of them use it to improve their test automation. Also, you can try it by having a demo or download it by yourself.
Who contributes to ReportPortal?
According to Github, ReportPortal has 105 unique contributors, but we don’t track contributors from any particular companies like I’ve seen on the Open Source Contributor Index. At EPAM, we have a dedicated team of about 25 people who help to improve the solution as well as customize it for clients.
What are the future plans for the solution?
Just to name a few things, we plan to address manual and semi-manual test reporting, bring in test management capabilities and requirements traceability, and make it possible to analyze performance and security testing results. Our vision is to wrap all these things into a quality gate to enable reporting on an entire application build at a glance.
What if someone needs extra features to make ReportPortal right for them?
